  • Oyster Experience: Affordable Fresh Oyster Delights

2 weeks ago, I was invited by friends. I fully enjoyed more than a dozen oysters from three different Japanese oyster-producing areas. Biggest one was from Itoshima, black one was from Chiba and small one was from Miyagi. They bought them from their friend who manages seafood related business so that the quality was perfect. The raw one just with fresh lemon squeeze ,the steamed one with green onion and peanuts oil.

If my understanding is correct “One Coin” means 500 JPY(apx.3Euro) in Japan. This bunch of steamed oyster (its totally fresh and even we can eat it in raw) just costed one coin.Lovely, isn’t it?Actually I’ve never tried Kakigoya, which mostly offers grilled or steamed oysters.I suddenly found steamed oysters taste this year

We went to Tai Nan An Ping 台南安平. We found this authentic restaurant called 養蚵世家=oyster family. Luckily, we tasted the very best oyster omelet ever. The price was unbelievably cheap (even I forgot it). On their facebook I found fried oyster noodle of this restaurant is selected as one of the 500 top Taiwanese local dishes 2024 全台小吃新指南500碗

  • Collab 1035: Where Coffee Meets History TaiChung, Dec 2024

Originally this building (since 1916) was used as an Otorhinolaryngology
Selection of Japanese design and fashion magazines

Taiwanese coffee scene is really hot. Every city seems to have lots of 3rd wave coffee hot spots. What’s the difference with Japanese one and theirs. From my point of view the attractions of the Space is much higher its of Taiwan. I could even feel the stories from the Taiwanese coffee shops. Maybe the owners love to choose those kinds of places. These places have interesting background stories. Like this shop which was originally build in 1916 (in the reign of Japan) as an Otorhinolaryngology!Their shop name “1035”was originated from their telephone number which at that moment very rare to have.

    Theatrical corner
Foreigners gathering (from the sound they come from Denmark)

Coffee and their homemade sweets was great. The place doesn’t limit the customers demographically. Foreigners, seniors, youngers all enjoy the time there very naturally. So its more European style than ours.Which I always wish to have here in Tokyo.

Drip bag coffee was so fresh

I regret I didn’t purchase some more drip bags here. It happens several times in Taiwan. After the trip, we can enjoy a nice cup of coffee. of course we will have memories of lovely spaces and imagine their stories.

  • A Local’s Guide to 椰庭 Seafood Restaurant in Tainan (Dec2024)

A Local’s Guide to 椰庭 Seafood Restaurant in Tainan (Dec2024)

Outside table was the best if the weather permits

The restaurant of Tainan’s sea area Annan安南 called 椰庭 which means “coconuts garden”. it was a very cozy restaurant which offers local fresh seafood. According to Miss Ou, she is not good at cooking but she loves to eat as well as most of Taiwanese (and Chinese and Japanese). So that I believe her sense of the restaurant discovery. I booked two nights at her Tainan city center’s vacation house in September 2024 because her ex-husband who owns another vacation house in Ali-mountain introduced her and her place when I asked the place to stay in Tainan. It was a great stay she did a whole day guide + we could fully enjoyed my birthday wine together at her place. Then I decided to stay 3 nights there again during my winter holiday.

roasted fish ( the name of the fish was forgotten)

I found the fact that fish skin could be the main material for the soup ,after coming back to Japan I tried several times. And it matches quite well with something sour like this soup, fermented loofa. From last December I started to DIY 酸菜= fermented Chinese cabbage and it matches with fish skin very correctly.

  • Experiencing C-Pop Nostalgia at Tainan’s Sunset Platform (Dec2024)

I worked in Bei Jing from 2007-2013 as an expat, at that time enjoyed C-pop well, going to the lives or Karaoke with friends or by myself. Especially Taiwanese and HK popstars were for everybody. Anyone can sing the top star’s any popular songs.

The owner of our Tainan(this is the 2nd time I stay her place) accommodation brought us to the 安平金城sunset platform, the timing was the best the season was nice. It was an evening of January, temperature was above 20 Degree! Around the platform there are several Oden (=fish cake stew) stalls, it reminds me Korean street. They matched well with winter cold but it seems the moderate temperature is also suitable to enjoy it.

Highlight for me and Miss Ou ( the owner ,who was born in 1974 ,1year older than me) was a young street musician’s singing golden hits of our C-POP golden times. The first song was Chang Chen-yue – Wikipedia’s 愛我別走Bing Videos…WOW. Definitely for me that song was of Jay Chow ,then later know the original version .Too nostalgic. She sang ,visitors there sang ,I sang. That feeling was so special .I sang Taiwanese song in Taiwan together with Taiwanese and the sunset time. Happy, happy about the fact I could have common feeling with them around.

  • Tai Chung Tea room Chiou Shan Tang 秋山堂 in the National Taiwan museum of Fine Arts(Jan2025)

Tai Chung Tea room Chiou Shan Tang 秋山堂 in the National Taiwan museum of Fine Arts(Jan2025)

It’s much more than a museum café. Guests can purely enjoy the time of great Taiwanese tea in a cozy and quiet space. Chiou Shan Tang(秋山堂)is a sister company of Chun Shui Tang (春水堂)but the style is totally different. If you are someone who wants to discover the wonder of tea, let’s spend several hours here. They also offer some yummy dim sums.

Spacious and not so crowded, imagine to spend several hours here with friends

This atomosphere is difficult to find in Japan or maybe in Tai Pei.

Each city’s population density tells us its main reason

    Tokyo =6,444/ ㎢

    Tai Pei =9,831㎢

    Tai Chung =1,291㎢

practical and beautiful but I couldn’t find it online platforms

Tea set seems to be very simple, but it was selected quite well. In China, people say to nurture a teapot. This is the one that is worth nurturing. I ordered the best Alisan tea, which they are proud of, and yes, the quality was high and the price was honest (At first glance, I thought it was a bit expensive but actually quite reasonable. Half of it is enough for the two of us to enjoy for around 2 hours (we can bring back the rest of the tea; the shop even offers sealing service).
